History
- Physically active
- Janice took the stairs rather than the elevator
- She parked at the far end of the parking lot to get extra steps
Turning Point
In 2002 she began feeling very old, even though she was only in her mid-30's; she was always tired and she began taking naps on the weekends. She used the elevator more often and parked. She felt nauseous all the time, yet gained weight.
Janice’s doctor suggested she see a cardiologist before starting an exercise program due to her family history, even though, he assured her, “she had nothing to worry about” because she was a young woman.
After viewing her poor stress test results, Janice’s doctor ordered a catheterization, although he reassured her she had nothing to worry about. The results showed a 99% blockage in the main artery to her heart. Bypass surgery was quickly scheduled as Janice could have suffered a massive heart attack at any time with survival unlikely.
Today
She feels great! She never realized how sick she was until she was better! Janice now exercises regularly and is leading a heart healthy lifestyle. |
